Warden Message # 23/2008 - Credit and Debit Card Fraud (August 24, 2008)
To All American citizens in the UAE:
In recent days the Embassy has received numerous reports of U.S. citizens in the UAE who have been victims of credit and debit card fraud. To date, all of the reported fraudulent charges have been made from the United States. We are aware of no fraudulent transactions originating in the UAE. However, we recommend that all Americans take the following actions:
--Frequently check the balances and purchases on your credit/debit cards to identify potential instances of fraud in a timely manner.
--Verify the amounts of your personal liability with your financial institutions in cases of fraudulent transactions.
--Report instances of credit/debit card fraud immediately to your bank or financial institution.
We are hopeful that these steps will help ensure your financial security and will notify the community should more information become available.
