Warden Message #01/2009:
Demonstration Scheduled in Abu Dhabi on Friday, January 9 (January 8, 2009)
The U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi has learned that the Abu Dhabi government has granted permission for a peaceful demonstration in support of the Palestinian people to take place Friday, January 9 along the Abu Dhabi Corniche. The demonstration is scheduled to begin on Friday, January 9 at 4 p.m. in the vicinity of the Hilton Hotel. The demonstration is then expected to proceed northward along the Corniche. U.S. Mission personnel have been instructed to avoid this area on the afternoon of January 9.
We remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations. American citizens should stay current with media coverage of local and regional events and be aware of their surroundings at all times.
