Reopening of the U.S. Consulate General in Dubai

January 22, 2009

The U.S. Consulate General in Dubai resumed normal operations on Thursday morning, January 22, 2009.

The Consulate General was closed to the public on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 after being notified of a threat against the facility.  Based on the information provided and pending further investigation, Consulate and Embassy officials decided that it would be prudent to close the Consulate to the public, in the interest of public safety and particularly the safety of our customers and visitors.

We have concluded that this incident no longer poses a threat to our employees or visitors, and consequently have resumed normal operations.

We regret the inconvenience to visitors whose appointments were cancelled and are contacting them to reschedule appointments.

The U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the U.S. Consulate General in Dubai appreciate the rapid response of the Dubai Police in relaying the threat received and in pursuing and apprehending those allegedly involved, and we wish to express our confidence in the protection and support that the U.S. Consulate General in Dubai receives from the Dubai Police.
