A New Beginning

President Obama today proposed a new beginning between the United States and Muslims worldwide.  Speaking from Cairo, Egypt, the President called for a sustained effort to listen to, learn from and respect one another, and a new beginning based on mutual interest and mutual respect.  He said the U.S. would pursue new partnerships with governments, citizens, community organizations, religious leaders, businesses and international organizations in education, economic development, science and technology and health.

President Obama discussed a broad range of common issues, including respect for Islam, American Muslims, confronting violent extremism, seeking peace and security for the Israeli and Palestinian people, the dangers of nuclear proliferation, democracy, human rights, religious freedom, women's rights, and economic development.
