Ambassador Visits Al-Gharbiah (April 21, 2009)
U.S. Ambassador Richard G. Olson, Jr. will visit Al-Gharbiah on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, in response to an invitation by H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Butti Al Hamed, the Ruler’s Representative to the Western Region.
Ambassador Olson is visiting Al Gharbia to witness first-hand the rapid growth and dynamic development of this region. The Ambassador will meet with students in secondary schools and distribute sets of “My Arabic Library,” which is a collection of hundreds of children’s educational books in Arabic. He will call on students and professors at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) in Madinat Zayed, view tourist and archaeological sites, and review a new housing development project in the oasis of Liwa. He will also meet with federal and local government representatives throughout the day, accompanied by H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammad bin Butti Al Hamed. This is his first visit to Al-Gharbiah as Ambassador to the UAE, though he has visited the region previously
