Embassy Hosts Map Cataloger from the Colorado School of Mine

Public Affairs Abu Dhabi hosted Mr. Christopher Thiry, map cataloging librarian from the Colorado School of Mines from October 10 to 15, 2009.  The program was organized at the request of the United Arab Emirates University, Zayed Central Library.    

During his visit to the United Arab Emirates Mr. Thiry gave two full day Workshops on October 12 and 14 on map cataloging; the first workshop was done in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture & Heritage Foundation (ADACH). The second one was at the University of the United Arab Emirates in Al-Ain.  On October 13 Mr. Thiry also did a two hour presentation at the Cultural Foundation on Energy and Energy Related Resources Produced by the U.S. Government.  Attendees were mainly academics, public and special libraries' experts, research professionals & others. 

Twenty five librarians and information professionals attended Mr. Thiry's map catalog including librarians from The Petroleum Institute, Dubai Public Library, Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency, and Zayed University.  

Attendees thanked the US Embassy for its contribution to their professional development and requested more frequent programming with US educated librarians.
