Embassy and Ministry of Foreign Trade Partner for Seminar on Arbitration Techniques
The U.S. Embassy partnered with the Ministry of Foreign Trade to host a seminar on international arbitration, with a focus on strategies, techniques, and presentation.
The event, part of the Department of State’s International Speaker Program, featured remarks by Ms. Lucinda Low, an internationally recognized expert on international arbitration.
Following her remarks, the audience was invited to participate in a discussion, moderated by Mr. Mahmood Sharif Mahmood, Director of Foreign Trade Policies for the Ministry of Foreign Trade. The discussion focused on the experiences of UAE firms with regard to international arbitration cases. Other U.S. Government participants included U.S. Embassy Economics Officer Susannah Cooper, and Consulate General Public Affairs Officer Bernadette Meehan.
Ms. Low is a partner in the Washington-based office of Steptoe and Johnson. She has significant experience in investment disputes between foreign investors and host governments, and in commercial arbitration.
In addition, Low is a member of the Board of Directors of Transparency International – USA, and the Secretary of State’s Advisory Committee on International Law. She is a former Chair of the ABA Section of International Law, and former Vice President and member of the Executive Committee of the American Society of International Law.
