Ambassador Olson Visits Western Region

April 21, 2009 – In response to an invitation by by H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Butti Al Hamed, the Ruler’s Representative to the Western Region, U.S. Ambassador Richard G. Olson, Jr. visited Al-Gharbiah on Tuesday.  Accompanied by H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammad bin Butti Al Hamed, the Ambassador met with federal and local government representatives at the Court of the Ruler’s Representative.  Additionally, the Ambassador met with students at the Higher Colleges of Technology, Madinat Zayed campus and visited the Al Gharbian Model School for Boys and the Al Khamael School for Girls.  At each secondary school, he gave a gift of the “My Arabic Library” set, which is a collection of hundreds of children’s educational books in Arabic.  He viewed tourist destinations, archaeological sites and new a housing development project in the oasis of Liwa. 

Ambassador Olson is visiting Al Gharbia to witness first-hand the rapid growth and dynamic development of this region.  This is his first visit to Al-Gharbiah as Ambassador to the UAE, though he has visited the region previously.
