Visa Types
Visas for Urgent Medical Treatment
It may be possible to obtain an expedited appointment for applicants traveling to the United States for urgent medical needs. Medical treatment is considered urgent if it cannot be delayed without risking the life of the patient.
Appointments are granted for the patient and up to three escorts, if needed. If the applicant is a child under 18 years of age, both parents and minor siblings may be granted appointments to accompany the child. If other people would like to travel with the patient, they will need to make an appointment using our regular appointment process. To request an expedited appointment, the applicant should follow the directions found at http://www.usvisa-info.com. They will need to contact the visa service provider at their call center Sunday to Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to request the expedited appointment. Please Note: all applicants must have already paid the visa application fee before seeking to make an expedited appointment. Please visit the referenced webpage for completed information.
Attention residents in Dubai and the Northern Emirates: the US Consulate General in Dubai also offers expedited appointments for urgent medical cases. Individuals who reside outside of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi are encouraged to request an expedited appointment at the Consulate General in Dubai.
Applicants granted appointments under this process must bring the following to their visa interview:
- A letter from a doctor/hospital in the U.S. indicating the patient has been accepted for urgent medical treatment, the treatment recommended, and estimated costs. The information in this letter must match the information provided in the request for an expedited appointment.
- If the Heath Care Authority or another UAE government agency is sponsoring the treatment, bring your original sponsorship letter. If the patient will pay for their own care, please bring proof of your ability to pay for the treatment to the visa interview.
