Passports

Minor Passports

All children under age 16 receive 5-year validity minor passports.  Children under age 16 must have both/both parents come with them to sign as outlined below.  Children over age 16 may sign their own passport application, but an accompanying parent will be most welcome.  To apply for a child's passport, you must come to the Embassy during American Citizen Services public hours with the following:

1. Passport Application Form DS-11.  Completed but not signed.  (List local address for Mailing Address although passport will not be mailed.)

- Online DS-11 form to complete online and then print
- PDF DS-11 form to print and then complete by hand

2. Two photographs (Photos must be 2 inches by 2 inches SQUARE, recent, and with white background as outlined here.  If you have incorrect photos, you will have to make a second trip to the embassy to complete your child's application.)

3. The child's current passport and 1 photocopy of the biographic page(s)

4. The child

5. If the child is under age 16, please provide:

A. Child's original birth certificate for proof of parentage
B. Both parents' consent - Both/both parents must come in person with ID to sign for the child's passport.  (If one parent is out of the country, please provide an original, notarized Statement of Consent from that parent.  If one parent has sole custody, that parent must sign and provide a legally binding court document granting sole custody.)

6. The fee is 315 UAE dirhams for most minors.  This is payable in cash (UAE dirhams only) or by credit card.

The new e-passport is printed in the U.S. and requires about two weeks to process.  You may keep your child's current passport and have it cancelled when you collect his/her new passport from the Embassy (we will not cancel the UAE residence visa).  If you live in Al Ain, please ask about our courier service when you apply at the embassy.
