Holiday Schedule

Listed below are the official U.S. holidays and the estimated UAE holidays that Embassy Abu Dhabi and Consulate General Dubai will observe during calendar year 2014.

The UAE government and religious authorities adjust dates of observance for some local holidays.  Therefore, dates may vary from the estimates below. If a UAE holiday falls on a weekend day, an adjacent work day will not be treated as a holiday for pay and leave purposes unless the UAE authorities so declare.

* Denotes UAE religious holidays. Dates for religious holidays are dependent upon the sighting of the moon and are likely to vary from the above estimated dates. Mission holidays will be determined and announced based upon the decision made by UAE Government authorities.

**Though frequently referred to as “Presidents’ Day,” this holiday is designated as “Washington’s Birthday” in Section 6103(a) of Title 5 of the United States Code, which is the law that specifies holidays for Federal employees. While institutions such as state and local governments and private businesses may use other names, it is the Office of Personnel Management’s policy to always refer to holidays by the names designated in the law.

*** The UAE Government often moves their holidays on a Sunday to accommodate a long weekend. Therefore, there is a possibility that these two holidays will fall on the same day. We will send a separate management notice when the dates are already final.
